As Harry Shearer recently commented on an interview by Keith Olbermann, 'We live on a planet with a molten core'. I would further qualify that statement by 'that planet is single pin in a very large bowling alley'.

Mammalia Animalia, Robin, that's you. Furthermore, you are glued to its surface by the immense force of gravity of that nickel iron core.

That large core, and its 16 psi or so of air spread over 100 miles, and the foot of organic compost scattered randomly here and there, and all that raging water, and that big star you see almost every day, are the only things that protect you from the rest of the universe.

Nature will eventually make its adjustments, and the evolution of the surviving animalia will once again be returned to a slow steady state, given the natural biological and geological constraints on it.

It's just an evolutionary phase.

Don't read too much into it.
